Frequently Asked Questions
If you cannot find an answer to your question below, please contact us.We are The Bookyard Ltd., the UK's largest supplier of Apple service spares, and click4mac.com is our web store for selling our refurbished Macs. The Bookyard Ltd. was established in 2006 as a recycling company for Apple products with the aim of providing service spares to the repair industry as well as consumers. We are an ADISA certified, family run business with 10 staff based in Liverpool. For more information see thebookyard.com.
For all Macs (Apple desktop and laptop computers) we offer a full 12 months warranty with the exception of very old vintage machines. For all other devices and accessories on the store, the warranty length will be clearly stated on the product listing.
Our warranty covers any hardware fault which occurs during your chosen warranty period provided they have not occurred due to accidental damage or clear mis-use of the laptop. So if your device develops a fault during normal use, just send it back to us and we'll repair it. If you have dropped it and broken the screen of spilled liquid on it and the keyboard has stopped working, we\re afraid that is not covered though you can still send it to us for a repair quote via our service web site, thebookyard.com. The warranty does not cover software problems but if there is any chance the problem is with the hardware, you can send it in to us and we'll check it out.
The battery is a crucial part of mobile devices such as laptops, iPads and iPhones and so if the battery is not working, we consider that a fault and it is covered under warranty. However, all rechargeable batteries gradually reduce in capacity over time and so this is normal and does not necessarily represent a fault. To provide you with assurance that your device remains useable, we will replace the battery for you within your warranty period if it completely fails or falls below a set percentage of the charge capacity when we sold it to you. This threshold is 60% for items covered by 3 month warranty, 50% for items sold with 6 months warranty, and 40% for items sold with 12 months warranty.
In all honesty we cannot guaranty 100% that you will not experience a problem with a machine we supply but what we can do is assure you that our testing and quality control procedures are the highest we have come across in our industry. If a hardware problem does occur, we will sort it for you but that's not what we want to happen as it's still hassle for you and for us so we make every effort to ensure all our devices are fault free before putting them up for sale.
click4mac is operated by The Bookyard Ltd., an ADISA certified IT Asset Disposal company and we are sold computers by individual consumers through our mac2cash.com trade-in site, and by companies and educational establishments though our macITAD.com operation. Strict regulations ensure that every device has a clear audit trail, transfer of ownership and is securely erased of all user data. Our trade-in checks all serial numbers against the checkMEND of stolen devices which is also used by the UK police force to log all stolen devices.
If the device we send you is found to be faulty when it arrives, we will arrange and pay for immediate collection. If a fault develops during the warranty period, you will need to send the device back to us at your expense. We will always do all we can to repair your device rather than replace it and as the UK's largest supplier of Apple service spares, we are in a unique position to be able to do that quickly in almost all circumstances. In the event that the part required to repair your machine is not available, we will supply you with a machine of the same or better specification and condition, and will transfer your data onto the replacement machine so disruption is kept to a minimum.
Firstly, this is unlikely because we ship all our refurbished devices in custom packaging that we have designed for each type of machine. We don't want our lovingly refurbished machines pointlessly damaged by insufficient packaging any more than you do. Our shipping is fully insured so even if your product is damaged, we will get it collected and you can choose either a full refund or a replace the product.
Our aim is to take the risk and hassle out of buying a second hand Apple computer by using only expert engineers to refurbish all the products we sell, and by offering a rock-solid, long warranty. These are expensive overheads that private sellers and many companies selling on eBay, do not have. We do not claim to match pricing on eBay as this is not a like-for-like comparison and if we did, we would not be able to provide the quality alternative experience that we do.
We can't easily answer that for you as your needs will be unique to you, but we can give you some pointers. See our blog post on 8 things you need to consider when buying a refurbished computer.
Every computer program has a minimum requirement for both the hardware and system version of the computers that it can run on. As it ages, each application version will eventually stop working on the latest system version and so to keep running that version you need to use an older system version. Since every new computer Apple release will only work with the system it was released with or newer, to run old software you will need to choose a computer that was launched with the last system version that your software worked with, or an older one. You can usually find what this latest compatible system version is by doing a Google search e.g. "Adobe CS3 Mac system compatibility".
Whether it's an external hard disk, RAID, scanner, printer, camera, network or any other peripheral you want to keep using, you need to check that you choose a computer that has the required ports. Apple's obsession with dropping technologies to keep ports to a minimum has seen many fall by the wayside including mini display port, VGA, DVI, EtherNet, FireWire, Thunderbolt and now even the ubiquitous standard USB port (you have to use an adapter from USB-C). While one option is to replace your peripherals or use adapters, it's worth considering the additional ports available on older models. Expand the full specs table at the bottom of every product page, or compare machines side by side to see what ports they have.

When we refurbish computers we will pre-load them with the newest system version that we feel runs at a reasonable speed on that model. For newer models that will mean the latest version of the Mac OS. However, some customers may have a preference or need to run a newer version or they may have devices or applications they need to use that require an older system version and so we offer the option on applicable machines, to have the machine reloaded with a different system version. There is no cost for this although it typically delays shipping of the product by one working day.
Yes you can, but only on the full version of the web site. There is not sufficient screen space to compare products on the mobile version of the web site. On the full web site, simply click the heart icon to favourite up to 5 products. These will appear across the bottom of the page. Once you have 2 or more, just click the "Compare favourites" link to view the complete technical specifications of the devices side by side.
Yes you can plus we collect and you get more money when trading in against a click4mac purchase. Simply enter your serial number into our trade-in site mac2cash.com to get an instant quote. If you are purchasing a product of greater value from click4mac.com, we can deduct the quoted value from the pre-VAT price e.g. if mac2cash.com quotes you £250 for your old machine, we will refund you £300 (£250 + VAT) from your payment for any product from click4mac. No need to wait to receive your new computer if you don't want to. You can purchase it on click4mac and have your old computer collected afterwards which gives you time to transfer data and be sure you are happy with your new product first. Trade-ins must be received within 30 days of the purchase against which they are being refunded. When you have booked your old device in on mac2cash.com, be sure to let us know you want to be paid in the form of a refund rather than as a direct payment.
Please note: We pay based on the condition of the device received so if this differs significantly from how it was booked in, the payment may be less than the original quote. This can happen if the machine is found to have a fault that was no known about. If you have decided to purchase from click4mac based on an expected payment, this could become a problem and so if you can back up your data first, it is worth considering having your old device collected by us and checked before we ship your new click4mac order. You can still purchase the desired item on click4mac.com so that it is reserved for you but put a note on the order during checkout to request that it be held until your mac2cash trade-in has been received and the price confirmed.
